Social play reading:
COLLABORATORS
by John Hodge
Tuesday 7 November 2023, 7pm for a 7.30pm start
at the Museum of Bath at Work, off Julian Rd, Bath, BA1 2RH
All are welcome to our unrehearsed play readings where we get together to read and discuss a play, as well as have a chat and some snacks.
This November, we're reading 'Collaborators' by John Hodge, which won the Olivier Award for Best New Play in 2012. 'Collaborators' will be the Rondo Theatre Company's summer show in 2024, and this reading is a great way to get to know the play before auditions in the new year.
Feel free to bring some nibbles and a drink to share - there will be time for socialising and discussing the script as well as reading. The doors will be open at the Museum of Bath at Work from 7pm and we will start reading at 7.30pm, aiming to finish before 10pm.
Please note that the room we are using at the Museum of Bath at Work is accessed via three flights of stairs.

Cast Size: 4f, 10m (very flexible)

Moscow, 1938. A dangerous place to have a sense of humour; even more so a sense of freedom. Mikhail Bulgakov, living among dissidents, stalked by secret police, has both. And then he's offered a poisoned chalice: a commission to write a play about Stalin to celebrate his sixtieth birthday...
Inspired by historical fact, Collaborators embarks on a surreal journey into the fevered imagination of the writer as he loses himself in a macabre and disturbingly funny relationship with the omnipotent subject of his drama.
John Hodge's blistering new play depicts a lethal game of cat and mouse through which the appalling compromises and humiliations inflicted on any artist by those with power are held up to scrutiny. We'll read the whole script over the course of the evening (script in hand) and everyone who attends should have the opportunity to read a section if they wish - or you are welcome to come and just listen if you are not familiar with the play.

Reality crumbles around Blanche DuBois as she comes to the home of her sister in the French Quarter of New Orleans, seeking refuge from the world she’s left behind. Instead, her mind is twisted and broken further by Stella’s opinionated husband, Stanley.
This is a retelling of the classic play, written by Tennessee Williams, as we fall into the depths of Blanche’s mind.
