'How do I act so well? What I do is I pretend to be the person I'm portraying in the film or play.'
-Ian McKellen

It is so good to be back and rehearsing again. So good to be putting shows on.
We had an amazing time with Amy Herzog's 4000 Miles. A great start to being back on stage again.

We have a lot coming up for you to look forward to, including our Autumn show and some workshops for you to take part in!

Have a read and get involved, we would love to see you.

Best wishes,

Performances

The Deep Blue Sea

by Terence Rattigan

Wed 24 – Sat 27 November • 7:30pm • Full £14 Concs £12

Directed by Andrew Fletcher and Lisa Thrower

1952. Ladbroke Grove, West London.

In a dreary flat, Hester Collyer reaches breaking point. When she is found by her neighbours in the aftermath of a failed suicide attempt, the story of her tempestuous affair with a former RAF pilot and the breakdown of her marriage to a High Court Judge begins to emerge. With it comes a portrait of need, loneliness and long repressed passion.

Widely regarded as Rattigan’s semi-autobiographical masterpiece, The Deep Blue Sea is a powerful and moving play of love and loss, passion and desperation set against the backdrop of post war Britain.

Auditions

The Wasp

by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm

Directed by Kirsty Woods and Alana Wright

AUDITION DATES:

Sunday 3rd October 5pm AND Monday 4th October 7pm

Audition location: The Tank Room (Upstairs in the Bath Brew House – 14 James St West)

Performance Dates: March 2022 (tbc) at the Rondo Theatre

Synopsis: Heather and Carla haven’t seen each other since school. Their lives have taken very different paths – Carla lives a hand-to-mouth existence while Heather has a high-flying career, a husband and a beautiful home. And yet, here they are in a café having tea and making awkward conversation. That is until Heather presents Carla with a bag containing a significant amount of cash and an unexpected proposition…

Morgan Lloyd Malcolm’s electric thriller asks how far beyond the playground we carry our childhood experiences and to what lengths some people are willing to go in order to come to terms with them.

Cast:

Heather: Playing age 25 – 45 – A successful businesswoman who still holds on to her troubling past and propositions Carla to escape her supposedly perfect life.

Carla: [is pregnant] Playing age 25 – 45 – Maintains her mannerisms and dress code from her teenage days, is unambitious but will do anything for money – or will she?

Trigger warning: This play contains descriptions of abuse of a sexual and physical nature and may be triggering for some.

Notes on the casting:

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the first amateur staging of Morgan Lloyd Malcolm’s electric thriller which debuted in London in 2015.

Although this play only lists two characters, we are looking for a much larger cast as this project will be very collaborative where multiple actors will be playing the lead roles and working together to direct, produce and support the production.

If you are unable to make the above audition dates but would still like to be considered, or if you have any questions about the production or the audition process, please contact the directors at:

Workshops

DRAMA WORKSHOP - OPEN TO ALL

Theatre is back! Zoom provided a valuable service over the last 18 months but there is no substitute for meeting and exercising those acting muscles (which may be a bit rusty). So the Rondo Theatre Company is running a drama workshop on 9th November to bring us all back together. And because we are all in need of a laugh, the theme is "Comedy Through The Ages"! You can expect a mixture of warmup games, improv sketches, and the opportunity to rehearse and perform a scripted scene from a classic comedy ranging from Shakespeare to farce and anything in between!

We'd love to welcome new faces as well as Rondo regulars - the amount of interest in our online events over lockdown proved how many keen theatricals there are in Bath waiting in the wings. So attendance will simply be first come first served. The numbers will be limited by space in the venue, so register your interest as soon as possible (and before 31st October) by emailing vonpaulley@gmail.com

The workshop will be 7-9pm at The Rondo Theatre and we will stay afterwards for some social time for both newcomers and old hands. The workshop will be £3 payable on the night. Please note that places are limited so book quickly!

We are hoping to run a few similar events each year so this is a bit of a trial run - hopefully see you there!

4000 Miles

A big thank you to everybody that came to see 4000 Miles. It was so great to be back on stage doing what we love and to have all of your support. We will leave you with this review and some of our favourite pictures.

Alana & Will

'Well done to the cast and crew of 4000 Miles - I am so glad that the patience of the team has finally paid off to bring this show to an audience. It's a fantastic script - Amy Herzog finds comedy at the most unexpected moments which just serves to bring the poignancy of this quiet play to the fore. The relationship between the youthful, bereaved, idealistic hippie and his empathetic yet worldly-wise and sharp-tongued grandmother is immediately evident and played to perfection by Josh and Yvonne. Their sensitivity to the brutality of both youth and age is compelling to watch. The whole cast are confident in their roles and deliver a thought-provoking extract of modern day life. A night of excellent theatre to welcome me back to The Rondo - thank you to all involved.'  Y P.
