RTC Auditions – Terry Pratchett’s Going Postal

The Rondo Theatre Company is Auditioning for Going Postal by Terry Pratchett

Adapted by Stephen Briggs

‘Always remember that the crowd that applauds your coronation is the same crowd that will applaud your beheading. People like a show.’

RTC are heading back to the Disc! The annual summer charity show for 2019 will be the popular farce with a heart – Going Postal!

WHEN: July 3rd – 6th 2019
WHERE: Rondo Theatre, Larkhall
WHO: Directed by Kirsty Woods, under the watchful eye of the… er… Watch. (RTC!)

AUDITIONS:

SUNDAY 27th JANUARY at 15.00

MONDAY 28th JANUARY at 19.30

AUDITIONS will be held at the Rec Pavilion (turn left off Pulteney Street, down William Street and the green and red building on the rec is where you need to be)

Moist von Lipwig (and that’s just the beginning), was a con artist, a fraud, a criminal. He was given a choice: certain death or get the Ankh-Morpork Postal Service back in business.

It was a tough decision.

He’s not alone in his mission – he has a golem who has been in a hole in the ground for hundreds of years, a man who knows nothing about pins (he knows everything about pins), and Junior Postman Groat (anything but junior) to help him get the mail through! The evil chairman of the GTSC is against him and he’s got to fight off more than him to stay alive! Getting a date with Adora Bell Dearheart (she hates it too) would be nice as well.

PARTS*:

(*Or characters. Other than Moist and Adora, no character gender is set. And other than Junior Postman Groat, there are no strict rules for the age of players either. We’d like people who are passionate, committed and eager to have fun. There is also HUGE scope for multi-rolling and each part will have lots to do.)

MOIST von LIPVIG (M) – Our not so heroic, hero. A conman, a quick thinker and smooth talker.
ADORA BELL DEARHEART (F) – Sharp, angry, not easily amused, in mourning.
TOLLIVER (JUNIOR POSTMAN) GROAT – The longest serving postal worker, is wary at first but keen to prove himself and utterly devoted to the Post Office. (is not at all junior)
STANLEY – Knows everything about pins. Intense, has his little ‘moments’
MR PUMP – A Golem
LORD VETINARI – Lord Patrician of Ankh-Morpork. Enjoys games and puzzles. Both metaphorically and literally. A calm storm.
REACHER GILT – The chair of the Grand Trunk, not very nice. Not very innocent.
DRUMKNOTT – Vetinari’s assistant. Clever. Quick.

PARTS WHICH WILL BE MULTI-ROLLED (OR OFFERED IF SOMEONE WISHES A SMALLER PART):

Cripslock (journalist), Maccalariat (postal worker), Deaconess (deaconess), Bill, Harry (coach drivers), Trooper, Wilkinson (executioners), Stowley, Greenyham, Pony, Slant, Horsefry (associates of Reacher Gilt), Ridcully, Collabone (Wizards), Gryle (a banshee), Igor (an Igor), Big Dave (owns the Pin emporium), Spools (printer)

As well as citizens of Ankh-Morpork

Rehearsals will begin mid-late April and will be Sundays and one evening in the week. Cast and crew will be expected to be available on the afternoon of the GET IN and the morning of the GET OUT. As well as available for a tech, dress and preview evening.

Auditions will be an informal, open to all, event, there is no need to prepare anything in advance. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the director at kirsty.r.woods@gmail.com
