Coming to the Rondo Theatre next week!

The Rondo Variety Show

Wednesday 27th - Saturday 30th March, 7.30-10pm
at the Rondo Theatre, St. Saviours Road, Bath, BA1 6RT

Hosted by Nat Prescott, well-known on the Bath comedy circuit from regular appearances at Barrel of Laughs and the Poor Man’s Fringe, the Variety Show will feature a range of local comedians and musicians alongside actors from the Rondo Theatre Company.

Each evening will begin with a performance of the brand-new, one-act play, 'Yeah, Art Figures' by Kim E. Ruyle, who recently won Best Stage Play and Best Script Overall at the Scriptwriters & Co International Festival. The play, directed by Benjamin Hardy-Phillips, sees disgruntled teacher Frank moan about the ignorance of his students to substitute teacher, Joni. In conversation with Joni and other teachers, Frank discovers that his own ignorance, in some ways, surpasses that of his students.

Following the play will be a stand-up comedy set and a live musical performance from a variety of local performers...
This is the Rondo Theatre Company’s annual charity show, with all profits going to the ‘Revamp the Rondo’ fundraiser, which aims to replace the well-loved seats at the Rondo Theatre.

Social play reading:

War Horse

by Nick Stafford

adapted from the novel by Michael Morpurgo

Monday 15th April, 6pm for a 6.30pm start
at the Rondo Theatre, St. Saviours Road, Bath, BA1 6RT

All are welcome to our unrehearsed play readings where we get together to read and discuss a play. Feel free to bring some nibbles and a drink to share - there will be time for socialising as well as reading.
(If you think you might be late, come any way! You will still have the opportunity to read.)

Our second play reading of 2024 will be Nick Stafford's Olivier award-winning adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's timeless classic of friendship in the First World War.

A bit about the play...
‘War Horse' originally opened at the National Theatre in 2007 before transferring to the West End and Broadway, later embarking on a worldwide tour. It won 2 Olivier awards and 5 Tony awards, including Best Play. Its third national tour of the UK is set to begin in September this year...

From the blurb...
"I want you to do yourself proud, Joey. You go and drive those Germans back where they've come from, and then come home to me.
At the outbreak of World War One, Joey, young Albert's beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. Caught up in enemy fire, fate takes Joey on an extraordinary odyssey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in No Man's Land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home."

We'll read the whole script over the course of the evening (script in hand) and everyone who attends should have the opportunity to read a section if they wish - or you are welcome to come and just listen if you are not familiar with the play.

The doors will be open at the Rondo Theatre from 6pm and we will start reading at 6.30pm, aiming to finish before 9pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
