"I want you to do yourself proud, Joey. You go and drive those Germans back where they've come from, and then come home to me.

We're thrilled to be hosting 'Jerusalem' as our May play reading as it features not only a colourful cast but a series of local touchstones making it the perfect play to read in the west country! (Bonus points if you're from Wiltshire!)

"My dad said he jumped buses. Horseboxes. Jumped an aqueduct once. He was gonna jump Stonehenge but the council put a stop to it."
On St George's Day, the morning of the local country fair, Johnny 'Rooster' Byron, local waster and Lord of Misrule, is a wanted man. The council officials want to serve him an eviction notice, his son wants to be taken to the fair, a vengeful father wants to give him a serious kicking, and a motley crew of mates wants his ample supply of drugs and alcohol.

Often cited as "one of the best dramas of the 21st Century" (Guardian) Jez Butterworth's highly acclaimed play first premiered at the Royal Court in 2009 before transferring to the West End and Broadway, picking up an armful of Best Play and Best Actor (Mark Rylance) awards on the way. It was then revived to great anticipation in 2022 with much of its original cast.
Featuring an eclectic cast of hilarious, mischievous and frightening characters, Jerusalem explores the state of 21st Century Britain in a way that deftly marries modern politics with ancient English folklore.

We'll read the whole script over the course of the evening (script in hand) and everyone who attends should have the opportunity to read a section if they wish - or you are welcome to come and just listen if you are not familiar with the play.

Open auditions:
A Streetcar Named Desire
by Tennessee Williams
Wednesday 15 May 2024, 7pm
at the Museum of Bath at Work, Julian Road, Bath, BA1 2RH
Open auditions - all over 18’s welcome
Performances will take place at the Rondo Theatre in November 2024
'A Streetcar Named Desire' is a play written by Tennessee Williams, set in the early 1950’s during the aftermath of the Second World War. Williams’ steamy and shocking landmark drama, especially after being recreated as the immortal film starring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh, is one of the most influential plays of the 21st Century. Directed by Heidi Street in her debut production at the Rondo Theatre, this will be a production heavily focused on the story of the two women that orbit each other, Blanche and Stella, as well as the impact of mental illness and misogyny that was a mainstay of the era.
Plot summary Fading Southern Belle Blanche DuBois depends on the kindness of strangers and is adrift in the world. When she arrives to stay with her sister Stella in a crowded, boisterous corner of New Orleans, her delusions of grandeur bring her into conflict with Stella’s crude, brutish husband Stanley. Eventually their violent collision course causes Blanche’s fragile sense of identity to crumble, threatening to destroy her sanity and her one chance of happiness.
We are looking for men and women aged 18+ to take on a variety of roles and help to conjure this shabby corner of New Orleans. There will be doubling up of some characters if necessary, and ideally some cast members will also assist with stage management during the show.
There is no formal preparation for the auditions, although it would be greatly appreciated if you familiarise yourself with the play if you get the opportunity.
We look forward to welcoming everyone to the auditions and hopefully welcoming you to New Orleans as we bring the story of Blanche DuBois to Bath!
Please note that this is an unpaid opportunity to perform with a community theatre company.
