Social play reading:

The Tempest

by William Shakespeare

Tuesday 7th July 2026, 7:10pm for a 7:30pm start
at the Rondo Theatre, St. Saviours Road, Bath, BA1 6RT
FREE TO ATTEND!

A bit about the play...
Come along to the next social play reading for a sneak preview of RTC's Spring 2027 show - another Shakespeare classic: The Tempest! The text has already been stripped back to create a punchy script, with themes both funny and heartfelt. It'll be a very relaxed evening - all you need to bring is yourself and maybe a snack or two to share!
The tale follows Prospero, a deposed Duke living on a mysterious island where he commands spirits and magic. When a ship carrying old enemies sails nearby, Prospero conjures a powerful storm to bring them ashore. As the castaways explore the strange island, secrets surface, alliances shift, and Prospero carefully orchestrates events from the shadows. The Tempest is the last play Shakespeare wrote entirely by himself (supposedly!) and is widely considered to be his love letter to theatre, beautifully blending music, song and prose.

Jazz Hazelwood-Rose will be at the helm for this one, so expect some gender-queering, silliness, and a dash of chaos. Please note: this isn't an audition, but is a chance for Jazz to see the script in its edited form and for everyone to have a relaxed, sociable evening. Any questions ahead of time can be emailed to Jazz: jazzghazelwood@gmail.com.

All are welcome at our social play readings, where we'll read the play in full, script in hand. There will be breaks to top up teas, discuss the text and dream up staging and casting! There's no pressure to read if you don't want to but everyone will get the chance to regardless of age/ gender/ etc.
If you think you might be late - come anyway! These events are very relaxed and we'd love for you to join us.
If you have any access needs / accommodations, don't hesitate to let us know and we'll do our best to support you.

Let us know you're attending by emailing therondotheatrecompany@gmail.com

Show Submissions:

Direct with Us!

The Rondo Theatre Company is now accepting submissions for our 2027 Summer and Autumn productions.

If you have an idea for a show that you would like to direct, please email us at: therondotheatrecompany@gmail.com

Summer show dates: Wednesday 16th - Saturday 19th June 2027

Autumn show dates: Wednesday 24th - Saturday 27th November 2027

Please note, each show runs for four nights (Wednesday-Saturday), with the get-in at the Rondo Theatre taking place on the Sunday before, the tech rehearsal on the Monday and the dress rehearsal on the Tuesday.

We are particularly interested in women-led plays or plays with lots of parts for women.

In your proposal, you should include:
  • Your name
  • The title and author of the play that you are proposing
  • A brief overview of what the play is about
  • A rough outline of your vision - why do you want to put on the play and what ideas do you envision for it onstage?
  • Rough cast size (and balance of male, female and gender-neutral roles)
  • Any previous directorial experience (please note this is not a requirement if this is your first time directing)
  • Whether you are pitching for our Summer or Autumn slot
  • Whether the amateur rights are available for the play or not
Please note this is an unpaid opportunity with a community theatre company.

We look forward to hearing your pitch!

Committee Business

Join the Committee!

We are looking to expand the Rondo Theatre Committee.

We are very sadly saying goodbye to two members of the Rondo Theatre Committee:
Firstly, our stalwart and incredible Social Media and Marketing Lead Josie Mae-Ross, who has done nothing less than revolutionise the way the Rondo Theatre Company sells its productions, bringing a varied and highly original identity to the company's social image. She is now moving on to bigger and better things and we thank her for all her tireless work for the RTC over the past three years.
Secondly, we are also saying farewell to Meg Robertson, who is stepping down from her role in the committee for pastures new. We wish her all the very best moving forward.

Consequently, we are looking to expand our committee with a whole host of new members!
As a committee member, you will:
  • Help oversee the organisation and development of the company and its three yearly productions
  • Have the opportunity to act as producer on one of our productions
  • Help build and maintain our social media presence and help create marketing materials for our shows
  • Attend committee meetings (either in person or virtually) to discuss the progress of our productions and social events (meetings take place once every few months)
  • Have the opportunity to run one of our monthly social play readings
Please note that this is an unpaid opportunity.

If you are interested in joining us, please do let us know at therondotheatrecompany@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
