This Easter the RTC presents an exciting new piece of theatre for all the family!
The Homeless Panda
Performance dates – Wednesday 23 to Sunday 27 March (performance times tbc)
The Story
Xióngmāo (pronounced ‘Sha-Mow’) the Giant Panda has lost his home – where will he go?
Exploring the Min Mountains of China for a new home, Xióngmāo encounters monkeys, snakes and more – but not all of them are willing to open their doors to our lumbering hero.
Too big, too hungry, too scary! All valid reasons not to let a Giant Panda move into your neck of the jungle.
So it’s up to Xióngmāo, and a couple of new friends, to convince the world that every Panda needs a home!
About the production
The Homeless Panda will be a devised piece of theatre, building on the framework of the story throughout the rehearsal process to create a brand new show.
To bring the characters to life, we’ll be blending incredible puppets with live action comedy and physical theatre (amongst other mediums).
Cast members will be taking on various roles throughout the course of the show.
The Characters
- Xióngmāo the Giant Panda
- The Golden Snub Nosed Monkeys
- The Red Pandas
- Chinese Cobra
- Malayan Porcupine
The requirements
Devising theatre is a huge amount of fun but is of course, a massive challenge!
There are absolutely NO gender/age requirements, nor the need for any previous experience with puppetry or indeed children’s theatre
All you will need is imagination, energy, a love of improvisation and a willingness to play…A LOT.
I hope you’ll be interested in the opportunity to develop some new skills, work with a host of guest facilitators and perform to a different audience.
I’m looking to cast between 4 and 6 actors (although this is flexible). If you would like to get involved we’ll be holding an audition workshop (lasting approx 1 hour) on the following dates:
Sunday 6 December at 3pm
Friday 11 December at 7.30pm
Auditions will take place at the Drama Hut on Vane Street. I’m also keen to hear from any musicians who might be interested.
If you are interested in auditioning or have any questions about the show, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Hi, I’m an actor amongst other things. I facilitate youth drama leading at Frome’s Merlin Theatre and have over 6 years experience in working with children, running my own drama club, devising, writing, improvisation etc. I am DBS checked and work as a cover supervisor at a school in Bath. I have set up my own production company and actors agency this year and I am currently working on my own production called “Ghost Voices” for the Frome Festival in July 2016. My question is what is the remuneration for this project or is it profit share? I have some limited puppetry experience but love learning new skills and I am a guitarist and singer/songwriter.
