Tuesday 13th October – 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start – The Rondo Theatre, St. Saviours Road, Bath, BA1 6RT
The Rondo Theatre Company is delighted to host a reading of John Constable’s adaptation of Mervyn Peake’s gothic masterpiece in time for the spooky season!
In a world bound by iron laws and dead rituals, two young men are struggling to make their way: Steerpike, the renegade kitchen-boy who seduces and murders his way up the social ladder, and Titus Groan, heir to Gormenghast, who comes to threaten its very existence.
Featuring a fearsome cast of grotesque yet unforgettable characters – from the murderous and mountainous chef Swelter, to the cat-obsessed lady of the castle Countess Groan – Gormenghast is a whirlwind of Gothic fantasy that not only seeks to ridicule the endless rituals that have governed British aristocracy for centuries, but also showcase how bloody and violent ambition can truly be when you have nothing to lose and everything to gain…
